Team USA Returns to Brazil to Close Out 2017 at Americas Regional Championships

U.S. Men’s and Women’s Goalball Teams are hoping to close out 2017 with a successful showing on the international circuit. Both teams are in Sao Paulo, Brazil, this week and ready to compete at the 2017 IBSA Goalball Americas Regional Championships.

Including Team USA, nine men’s teams and six women’s teams will be in attendance. Most will be competing to qualify for the 2018 Goalball World Championships taking place in Sweden, June 3-9. Team USA has already qualified by finishing 2nd (Men) and 3rd (Women) at the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games. The following athletes and coaches will be representing Team USA:

U.S. Men’s Goalball Team
Joseph Hamilton
Andrew Jenks
John Kusku
Daryl Walker
Josh Welborn
Calahan Young
Coach: Matthew Boyle

U.S. Women’s Goalball Team
Amanda Dennis

With Tokyo in mind, experience is a top priority for both teams, but so is qualifying for the 2019 ParaPan American Games. The ParaPan American Games in Lima, Peru, will be the last of three opportunities for teams to qualify for the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games should the U.S. not be able to qualify at the World Championships in 2018 or IBSA World Games in early 2019.

Competition begins Wednesday, November 28th, at 5:30 a.m. ET with finals scheduled to take place Sunday, December 3rd. Team USA’s schedule is as follows:
