This month, four USABA athletes competed in the IBSA World Games in Seoul this month. With 6,000 athletes from over 80 countries, stakes were high. Powerlifter Charles King (Philadelphia, Penn.) competed as the oldest visually impaired powerlifter in the US. This week, four USABA athletes will travel to Seoul, Korea to represent Team USA in powerlifting and track & field events at the International Blind Sports Federation (IBSA) World Games. Approximately 6,000 athletes from 80 different countries are expected to participate in the Games in Seoul. Loss of independence is an upsetting and difficult stage for those who become visually impaired. Last year, ultra-runner, Jason Romero, experienced this uncomfortable setback when he lost his job and stopped driving due to rapid deterioration in his eyesight. When faced with this sudden loss of independence, Romero slipped into depression. The 4th Annual USABA Marathon National Championships sponsored by VSP Vision Care took place on December 2 in Sacramento, California at the California International Marathon. We had 16 marathoners, 15 relay runners and 39 guides.
