Dick Anderson dedicated his professional life to working with people who are blind and visually impaired. He was a teacher for 32 years and spent 12 years coaching at the collegiate level. Prior to teaching, he was an All-American NCAA & NAIA athlete in cross country and track and was even a competitor at the 1964 and 1968 Olympic Trials in Modern Pentathlon. Anderson was the chairman of USABA Track and Field Technical Committee from 1977 to 1991, as well as the head coach for the 1980 and 1988 Paralympic Track & Field teams. In addition to Paralympic coaching, Anderson was the head coach for World Championships and Pan American Games from 1978 to 1990. He also organized and directed USABA Marathon Championships at Drake Relays, Boston Marathon and Marine Corps Marathon. Anderson was also a USABA representative with the Athletic Congress and a nationally rated official with TAC, as well as a volunteer assistant coach for field events with Oklahoma Christian University. He passed away in December 2021 after battling acute leukemia. More at dickanderson.org.
