Pamala Fernandes

Pam Fernandes has been an active member of USABA since 1993 when she attended the first multi-disability cycling camp in Colorado Springs. She began racing that year as a B1 mixed tandem category racer and won the National Championship. She continued to win the USABA National Championship every year from 1993 through 2000. Fernandes competed internationally at the IPC World Cycling Championships in 1994 and 1998 where she took home silver. She competed in the Atlanta 1996 Paralympic Games and Sydney 2000 Paralympic Games where she medaled and set a Paralympic and World Record in track cycling. During the Sydney 2000 Paralympic Games, she won gold and silver, set one world and two Paralympic records in track cycling. In 2001, Fernandes won two gold medals at the European Championships in Zurich, Switzerland and in 2002, won two gold medals and set a world record at the World Championships in Augsburg, Germany. In recognition of her determination and courage, Fernandes was awarded the U.S. Olympic Spirit Award presented in Salt Lake City in February 2001. She now serves as USABA’s cycling camp coordinator.
